Taiari Mouth

Taiari Mouth

For this project, I was tasked with creating a detailed map showcasing the historic landmarks of Taieri Mouth. Designed with tourist families in mind, the map serves as a guide to explore and discover the rich history and hidden gems of this beautiful location.

The difference between "Taieri Mouth" and "Taiari Mouth" reflects New Zealand’s commitment to recognising Māori heritage. The original Māori name Taiari, meaning slow-moving tides, was altered to "Taieri" by European settlers. Recently, locals have worked to restore the original spelling in some cases, such as on historic maps, to better reflect Māori culture and the area’s true history. This aligns with Aotearoa’s efforts to honour indigenous language and identity
